news Newcastle Take Out VB Country Championships [Country Cricket] 03-12-08 at 15:46
Wed 03-Dec-2008 15:46
In a rain marred event on the Central Coast, Newcastle eclipsed Riverina in a tight final of the VB Country Championships. Batting first, Newcastle totalled a competitive 216 with Simon Moore providing the backbone of the innings with a solid 77, supported by Troy Goodwin with a typically swashbuckling 50. Allen Edis was the pick of the Riverina bowlers with 4-57. After losing 3 early wickets, Riverina consolidated with Mick Delaney (62) and classy skipper Chris Armstrong (56) adding 107 for the 4th wicket. Costly run outs saw Riverina behind the run rate, along with clever bowling from experienced Newcastle leggie Ben Woolmer saw Riverina eventually dismissed for 178.
