Boggabri Cricket Association
Welcome to Boggabri District Cricket Association - Founded 1921
2008/09 Season The Association was started in 1921. Charles Page a bank manager was the foundation President and Cecil Clark from Willala, the first Secretary. The teams making up the Association were - Braymont, Wean, Willala, Therribri, Maules Creek and two teams from Boggabri. Around this time Wynella Station was settled and the Willala team was split, with two teams from the area playing as Willala and Wynella respectively. Few records of the early years of the Association survive. But players prominent in the twenties and thirties were Ab Eather, Bob Clark, Gordon Evans and Stewart Eather - all North-West representatives at Country Week. After World War II the Association was very strong. It won the War Veterans Cup in 1946-47 beating Inverell in the Final at Manilla. In 1949-50 Boggabri were again successful in the North and North-West district competition. On this occassion they accounted for Tamworth in the semi-final and defeated Narrabri in the Final. The N.B. Love Shield was presented to the Association for annual competition in 1947 and remains the symbol of cricket supremacy in Boggabri. N.B. Love was the owner of the Boggabri Flour Mill, the town's largest employer at the time. The type of competition has changed over the years. Two day Saturday afternoon cricket was popular after the war until 1953. Since then competition has primarily been of a one day nature played on Saturday afternoon.
